Sire Line

Cartani

Performance record: Cartani belonged to the lot of premium stallions at the 2003 Holstein licensing. In 2004 he completed his 30-day test in Adelheidsdorf where he received top scores in jumping. His training has carefully advanced from novice (A), elementary (L) and medium (M) tests which he has won or was highly placed. In 2006 he qualified for the Bundeschampionat with two riders.

Breeding record: Cartani produced especially striking foal crops in which there was a high percentage of premium foals. In 2005 he was the sire of the Cham-HDB Colt at the Foal Championships in Dithmarschen and in 2006 he presented the champion foals in the Pinneberg and Bordesholm districts.

Origin: Cartani's origin is something very special. Both his sire Carthago Z and his dam Taggi were both absolute high-fliers in the international show lamping. Carthago Z was initially in the service of the Holstein Verband before he switched to Gestiit Zangersheide/BEL where he passed the hurdle to the world's elite with Jos Lansink. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta/USA, they took eleventh place individually after having taken seventh with the Dutch sum. His sire Capitol I and his grandsire Calando I, an internationally successful show jumper who had also won a German Champion title, are both deemed pillars of Holstein breeding. Carthago's dam line 162 has produced exceptional sport horses in series for generations, most recently the three-time European Champion and WC team bronze winner, Coster/Christian Ahlmann. For years, the German estimated breeding value statistics have placed Carthago in the highest ranks. The dam Taggi was an absolutely exceptional mare in Sb'ren von Ronne's stables. Along with numerous first places in Grand Prix and Nations Cups, she placed up front in five starts at the Grand Prix in Aachen. She was also the only horse to achieve a clear round in the qualification test for the individual final at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona/ESP. The highest point of their joint career was the individual bronze and team gold medals that they won at the l994 World Equestrian Games in Den Haag/NED. As a broodmare in Soren von Ronne's stables, Taggi produced Cartani's two year older full saster, Orchidee X. When bred to Acorado I, she produced a licensed stallion named Artani who is stationed with the Holstein Verband. The lifetime earnings rf progeny by Cartani's dam' sire Landgraf surpassed the 4.3 million Euros mark in 2004, making him the unchallenged leader among all German sires. The granddam Conny is also the granddam of Santana, who produced three advanced (S) level show jumpers when bred to Athlet Z. The dam line has East Prussian origins. Moskit, who appears in the fifth generation, is a son of Semper Idem, who is regarded as a line founding sire in Hanover.

Capitol I

His sire Capitano is the only stallion to maintain the sire line of Cottage Son xx until this day which is probably due to his excellent dam, the famous Retina by Ramzes. Ridden by F. Thiedemann she won e.g. the Hamburg Showjumping Derby. Capitol is a descendant of one of the best Holstein lines: His dam Folia is endowed with an enormous jumping ability and produced several approved stallions, i.e. Latus I and II, Cellebrio and Capitol II, as well as the state premium mares Kausa, Lektion (a successful eventer under I. Dehn) and U-Capitola, the dam of the approved stallion Lord Capitol. The grandam Vase (by Ramzes), who produced i.a. the approved stallions Grand Vikar and Montreal, was a full-sister to Romanus, a German top showjumper under H.G. Winkler between 1959 and 1965 (e.g. placed in the European Championships three times). Capitol is the sire of many international top showjumpers like e.g. Corso (W. Melliger, Switzerland), J.R. Number One (USA), Caruso Rex, Calle and Cincinatti (W. Peters), who is the dam of the young stallion Coriall. According to the breeding value rating by the FN he is one of the leading sires of showjumpers in Germany (162 index points). His daughter Cardinale was sold for 200,000 DM at the Holstein autumn sales in Neumiinster in 1991. His offsping also include: Carolus, Calato, Carthago, Campione and Cassini.

Calando I

Calando I, a Cor de la Bryere son and a sire that has not only proved his ability but above is his willingness to perform in international show jumping. After three seasons at stud Calando was sold as a showjumper. He was a success right from the start. In 1984 he was German Showjumping Champion under K. Huck and in the same year he achieved good placings in the Grand Prix competitions of Rome, Dublin and Calgary. Under E.H. Cuppers from Belgium he achieved further international wins and placings. When Calando came back to Holstein at the end of the eighties it already seemed that his progeny inherited his showjumping ability. Next to Canaris and Castor one has to mention Careful, who participated in the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 under E. Blaton for Belgium. In the FN breeding-value rating he got the outstanding index for showjumping of 186. Three state premium mares and the approved stallion Calvin are the basis of his successful career at stud. From the young crops of his second stud career many premium-winning fillies and several premium-winning potential stallions are very promising.

Landgraf I

Landgraf I, was a prize-money millionaire and at the same time a legendary breeding stallion. He is today considered as the world's best jumper sire of all times. From todays point of view, the damsire, Landgraf I, is the most successful sire of show jumpers of all times. His best-known offspring include Taggi/Soren von Ronne, the licensed Libero H/Jos Lansink (1994 World Cup Champion), Leandra and Lucky Luke/Otto Becker, Lovely Boy/Norbert Koof, Lagretto/Carsten-Otto Nagel, Lassandro/Soren von Rb'nne, Landega/Helena Weinberg and many others, who have won over 4.4 million Euros up to now. Landgraf I sired more than 100 stallion sons.

Dam Line

Counter

His sire Calido I was an accomplished show jumper and is one of the most sought after younger generation Holstein stallions today. The damsire Corrado I won numerous international competitions under Franke Sloothaak. The dam H-Corofina is a full-sister of the approved stallions Corofino I and II. Her sister Flora was mated with Alexis Z, to produce the Association stallion Altini. The grandam Valeska, daughter of the approvals winner Fernando, who was known for the correctness of his foundation was mated with Contender to produce the Holstein approvals winner of 1994, Camiros. A further close relative is the top hereditary transmitter Coriano. The significant Bloodline 318 A 2 moreover also produced the stallions Amico, the successful international sports horse Castello, Celvin, Constantino, Hetman, Landcap B, Landsturm, Larry, Lehar, Leonardo, Leonardo R, Lido, Martell I-IV, the transmitter of performance Matador, the young stallion Mill Reef and the Ramzes AA son Roderich, who is so important for Westphalia.

Counter completed the 30 day test in Vechta in 2000, with clearly above average results.

Calido I

Calido was the standout sire in the jumping at the 2004 Bundeschampionate, siring the winner of the 5 year old jumping championship, Coster, and the Reserve Champion, Clintwood, and Celine making it through the final. Calido carries the influential Holstein C line of Cor de la Bryere and Capitol. Calido has been a success at stud and has been awarded the highest FN breeding ranking. His oldest progeny are already internationally successful. Stallion sons of Calido include Calanthano, Caleri, Calido Ass, Calmo, Candyman, Cantino, Cerutti, Cervantes, Chalet, Chapot Charakter, Charisma, Conquest of Paradies, Cormint, Coster, Counter, Count Basie and Crelido.

In the Hanoverian Stallion book for 2007 Calido is recorded with progeny earnings of 721,361 euro, with 496 progeny competing in jumping and with 98 at advanced levels. He has an FN jumping index of 144 and a dressage ranking of 117. On the basic of the Hanoverian mare and auction tests, he has a dressage score of 119 and a jumping rank of 159. Calido passes on his lovely type and jumping ability. His pedigree contains 3 times Cor de la Bryere, 3 times Cottage Son XX, 3 times Ramzes AA and 2 times Anblick XX.

Lord

Lord's sire Ladykiller xx was a shooting star right from the start of his stud career. His first crop had brought 8 approved stallions, including Landgraf I. His second crop included the eager winner of the stallion approval Lord and the third crop included Boy, who later on won the German Showjumping Derby (E. Macken). Lord's dam-sire Cottage Son xx sired quite a number of very successful competition horses in only 5 seasons (i.a. Colibri, Cortina, Cottage Incident. The most outstanding product of this sire line is Granat by Consul (best dressage horse of the world in the seventies, Chr. Stiickelberger, Switzerland). It is still very prolific mainly via the great-grandson Capitol, but the best Cottage Son left are probably his daughters: Two of them produced Ramiro and Lord.

As he was not very much made use of as a sire in the beginning, he also successfully competed in showjumping competitions. However, his first crop brought the international showjumper Livius, who won the German Showjumping Derby under P. Luther and a team medal at the European Championships in 1981, the World Championships in 1982 and the 1984 Olympics. He was followed by the very able Lugana (K. Huck), the very successful Lafayette (H. Schmidt) and Pedro (Th. Friihmann), who competed in the World Championships in Dublin in 1982. Of his younger progeny the approved stallion Lord Incipit (Th. Luther), Lyra (H. Luther) and Tovia (A. von Buchwaldt) cause a stir today. In 1984 Lake Placid caused a sensation when he was sold for the top price of 180,000 DM through the Holstein auction. Literat and Lavallo won the stallion approval. In 1987 his daughter Wiebke was champion mare in Elmshorn.
