Sire Line

Quidam de Revel

In 2004, Quidam de Revel topped the World Breeding Championships Jumping Stallion ratings for the second year running, establishing himself as the pre-eminent – and most expensive – living sire of jumping horses. With ten (!) of his progeny jumping at the WEG in Jerez 2002, he was the stallion with the most number of progeny at this level.Quidam was himself a jumping star; a member of the French Olympic Team, and fourth individually at the Barcelona Olympic Games with Herve Godignon. A year later the patriotic French breeders were shocked when Danish businessman, Flemming Velin purchased the stallion for a still secret sum, believed to be a record at the time.

In an article in HORSE INTERNATIONAL (No 1 – 2003), Velin told the journalist, Pernille Linder Velander: “I am a Thoroughbred person. Quidam is the kind of horse that appeals to me. He is a perfect beauty. If you compare him to the legendary Northern Dancer, you could hardly tell who is who. They could be twins.”

But Mr Velin got more than a breeding stallion, he purchased the ultimate ‘school-master’ for his son, Thomas, taking him on to win such prestigious events as the Grand Prix of Hannover. According to Thomas: “The feeling I got from Quidam has taught me what it should feel like to sit on a really good horse. If you have not had that experience, you simply cannot imagine what it can be like. When in the air, if needed, Quidam could just… like put in another gear, make another effort and jump higher still even after taking off from the ground.”

Quidam de Revel unites two of the most important lines of the Selle Français horse – the lines of Jalisco and Uriel.

Jalisco is a legend in his own right, but Quidam’s dam was also a star – Dirka, despite being only 163 cms, won at international level with Nelson Pessoa, before being given to Xavier Leredde who made his junior international debut on her.

Returned to her breeder, Prince Amaury de Broglie, Dirka was bred to Sans Souci, to produce two international competitors, Orka and Paprika de Revel, then with Jalisco B she produced Quidam de Revel and the broodmares, Razzia and Sarah de Revel. With Jalisco’s half brother, Kisosovo, she produced CSO winner, Vallon Rouge, and with Narcos, Aiglon Rouge, a star in Holland. With Quat’sous, she produced Byra Rouge, and with Pappillon Rouge, Dirka de Revel. What a mare!

Dirka’s dam, Ondine de Baugy produced five broodmares, and from them came the stallions, Sheyenne and Sioux de Baugy. Ondine’s dam Nadine produced five foals, all by Nankin. Troubadour B, won the 6 year old final and jumped at international level; Uriel, the most influential national stallion of the Selle Français book, and star of the great St Lô stud; Commander, an international competitor for Switzerland; Daguet de Baugy, a CSI winner for Belgium, and Voulzie, the dam of Furiel de Baugy.

Quidam’s pre-eminence as a sire was confirmed at the 2002 WEG in Jerez, where he was the sire of more showjumping participants than any other stallion.

Current performers include: Goldy, Guidan, Circa Z, Tlalloc La Silla, Nabab de Rêve, Dollars Boy, Hermès St Lois, Happy Villers, Jadis de Toscane, Belsedène d’Amaury, Bamby II, Baie Mahault, Coucou des Vivreau, Demie-Lune, Darios V, Furka du Village, Huppydam des Horts, Eve des Étisses, Daibolo du Parc, Dolovia de Sapaie, Drakkar de Phaële, Diam de la Ressée, Daibolo du Parc, Étoupe, Bianca d’Amaury, Eyken des Fontenis, Electra d’Amaury, Éburovic Granpré, Coco Chanel Trèfle, Billy de Forcilles, Happy Villers.

Grosso Z

This young stallion has been creating a great deal of interest, in that he has not only produced an international jumping star in Goldfever - but has also produced the international quality dressage stallion, Goethe.

As his name indicates, Grosso Z is not only a descendent of the famed Hanoverian 'G' line, but also a product of perhaps the most famous private jumping stud of them all, Léon Melchior's Zangersheide, in Lanaken, Belgium.

Grosso Z is by Goliath II Z who was himself an international showjumper with Willy van der Ham. Goliath II Z is by Graf Gotthard by Gotthard, and out of the foundation mare of the Zangersheide breeding program - Heureka by Ganeff. Heureka was actually ridden by Zangersheide founder, Léon Melchior, but with Hermann Schridde in the saddle, she was a star, winning the Grand Prix of Aachen. Heureka is the grand-dam of Ratina Z and her three stallion full-brothers, Rebel I, II and III. Grosso Z's dam, Füchsin is by Furioso II out of a Lugano I mare. Füchsin was the dam of expensive auction horses as well as the licensed stallon son, Cadence Z, who competed successfully in the open jumper division.

After he won the title, Champion Stallion of Belgium, Grosso Z moved to Germany and the St Ludwig stud. One year later, Grosso Z was the Champion Stallion of the Stallion Performance test at Warendorf, scoring a sensational 148.85 - thanks to his wonderful basic gaits, rideability and jumping ability.

Accepted as a breeding stallion in Westfalia, Oldenburg, Belgium and the KWPN - and soon after that for Hannover and all the German studbooks except Holstein, Grosso Z was also used as a breeding stallion in France and Italy.

He spent four seasons at the breeding farm Wiechenhof in the centre of the Hannoverian breeding area. He was greatly sought after, and produced numerous valuable mares and several stallions. With 492 competitors in Germany by the year 2000, Grosso Z's offspring had won DM819,805 - giving Grosso Z a dressage rating of 131 and a jumping rating of 138.

In 1994, Grosso Z returned to the Rhineland area, where he continued to compete up to M level jumping, then under Jan Nivelle switched to the dressage arena, competing up to Intermediaire I level.

He has produced a number of licensed sons including Galippo (out of an Absatz mare) who with the new name, Gambinus, competed for Britain in the European Championships, ridden by Peter Storr.

Undoubtedly his most famous offspring is Goldfever. The handsome chestnut stallion is out of Gundula (Galvano/Damhirsch) and he was bred by Sigurd Hochmuth.

Approved at Verden in 1993, Goldfever finished eighth in his performance test the following year at Adelheidsdorf, with the good jumping index of 122.63. He started competing with Claudia Freise and caught the eye of Ludger Beerbaum's sponsors, Dieter and Madeleine Winter-Schulze, who bought him, Initially ridden by Ludger's bereiter, Dirk Dahlmann, Goldfever made his sensational debut at the Bundeschampionate in 1997.

A string of good performances at Berlin, Munster and Bremen followed. In 1999 they were second in the Audi-Championship and in the Grand Prix of Donauueschingen, won at Walkenswaard, Berlin, and the took out the Championship at the German Classics in Bremen, beating World Champion, Rodrigo Pessoa.

Selection in the Olympic team for Sydney followed, although the Games are not a happy memory for Ludger - back in Europe they hit their stride again ......

Another star son for Grosso Z is Goethe, born in 1992 and out of Madonna by Maat I and by the Arab Gazal VII.

Goethe sold at the 1995 Verden Auction for DM60,000, and was sent to Heiner Schiergen for training. Soon he was winning riding horse classes. In 1997, Goethe finished in fourth place at his performance test, with an overall score of 127 and the very high dressage index of 133.15. He went on to place third in the Five Year old Class in 1997, and sixth in the six year old division the following year at the Bundeschampionate.

In 1999, Goethe won the freestyle for young horses at Hannover, and went on to win several Prix St Georges classes, with good scores

Dam Line

Grosso Z

Grosso Z began an outstanding career as a sire. He won his stallion performance test in Warendorf in 1986 with almost 150 points. After that, he was successful in show jumping up to intermediate class and later had dressage wins in Prix St. George-and Intermediaire I. He passes on his show jumping and dressage talents to his progeny and has ranged in the forefront of the FN breeding value ratings of his age class, with extraordinarily high, secure breeding values for years now. The show jumper Goldfever/L. Beerbaum is his most successful son, whilst Gina Royal OLD who won the 2002 Piaff-Promotion Prize with Ellen Schulten-Baumer, is a top dressage horse. Grosso Z is currently the most successful living sire Germany-wide.

Grosso Z's sire Goliath Z was a successful international competition horse and is a half-brother of the magnificent Ahorn The dam Heureka who celebrated international successes with Hermann Schridde also gave birth to the mare Argentina I who in turn produced the super mare Ratina Z / Ludger Beerbaum and her approved full-brothers Rebel Z I, II and III. Grosso Z' s dam Füchsin Z presented a number of auction horses and together with Cor de la Bryere, the approved Cadence Z (private stallion Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar, Saxony). Her sire Furioso II became a world reformer in the Oldenburg breed. Lugano I and Welf in the earlier generations were incredibly strong performance transmitters.

Rheinblick

Rheinblick, was a son of the DLG Champion Stallion Romadour II, whose offspring's life winnings add up to over 124,000 Euros. A part of this sum was earned by the dressage horses Raphael, Rainbow Star and Rondo grazioso, who are currently successful in tests up to St. Georges level. Rheinblick, who was likewise awarded a DLG Premium, stems from the Holsteiner performance line 173, which produced top-class sires such as Dream of Glory, Latus I and II as well as Capitol I and II. Apart from Rheingau, he presented another licensed stallion son, Rheingraf (Moritzburg State Stud).
