Stallions
At Quainton Stud we can collect semen from your stallion with our safe and humane Artificial Insemination service. We can facilitate fresh and chilled semen collections, and we offer a worldwide distribution of semen with excellent fertility results. By mounting a dummy horse your stallion will avoid risks such as injury, behaviour problems or cross contamination of sexually transmitted diseases, which can be associated with stallions covering mares naturally.
Quainton Stud has a resident teaser mare who has been over-extemised and stands quietly for all stallions the covering barn has been professionally designed to meet all your mare and stallions needs.
Semen collection is carried out in the safe environment of the Quainton Stud Collection Area. In our state of the art Collection Area the rubber floor is non-slip and our teaser mare stands behind a purpose built wooden wall.
Stallion owners have the option to bring their stallions to Quainton for single collection or their stallion may remain at Quainton Stud on Stallion livery for the season.

Mares
Artificial Insemmination is a safe and humane service which is highly recommended by stallion owners. We can facilitate fresh and chilled semen collections, and offer a nation wide distribution of semen across the UK, with excellent fertility results.
Visiting mares are taken at livery for Artificial insemination with fresh, chilled or frozen semen, which includes semen that has been sent from non-Quainton stallions. Mares should arrive prior to 'coming in season' and will be constantly monitored to obtain the optimum timing for insemination.

Mares and foals whilst at Quainton Stud receive every possible care, attention and supervision. Veterinary assistance is called in when deemed necessary and is chargeable to the owner. All mares are served at their owner’s risk and no responsibility can be accepted for injury, damage or loss caused through trying to or serving any mare.
For all mares leaving the stud scanned in foal to fresh or chilled semen by stallions.
All stallions owned by Quainton Stud will not incur an in foal fee. This in foal fee includes insemination costs and all the handling associated with the veterinary work.
If a mare leaves before being scanned it will be assumed that she is in foal and the fee is payable along with the board fees before she leaves the stud.
If subsequently she is found to be not in foal before October 1st and confirmed by a vet’s certificate, the £135 will be returned.
All in foal mares need to have a 28/30 day and 42 day PD scan to confirm a single viable and healthy pregnancy; if mares leave the stud before the heart beat scan it is the owner’s responsibility to arrange for this to be carried out.
Veterinary Fees and Contract:
All expenses incurred for visits, examinations and medicines will be payable by the owner directly to Bellow Hills Veterinary Practice
Veterinary Contract:
Mares will be accepted at an ‘all in package’ to cover routine veterinary work at Quainton Stud connected with reproduction. Routine includes scans, call out, drugs and one PD scan at 16 days, a second scan at 28/30 days and a third scan at about 42 days; it does not include swabs, twinning, caslicks, lavage etc and the treatment of mares with endometritis and other non routine matters.
AI Fresh, Chilled and Frozen Semen:
£300 (+ VAT) one off fee for Stallions owned by Quainton Stud for fresh or chilled semen.
£375 (+ VAT) one off fee for Stallions not owned by Quainton Stud fresh or chilled semen.
£280 (+ VAT) one off fee for frozen semen (per cycle).
