Description
Holstein colt with a fantastic combination of breeding, movement and type.
Sire Line
Cascavelle
His sire Cantus, was a monumental grey stallion with an overwhelming predisposition for jumping, a characteristic which he readily passed on to his progeny.
He left a number of influential sires such as Come On (international showjumping successes with H.R.H. Haya Bint al Hussein), Calido I, Cyrano, Cassius Clay, Cristobal (priv. stallion, Bavaria, federal Champion 1994), Canaletto (federal vice-champion 1994) and Cascavelle.
His dam Phaedra, was herself a very successful competition sports horse under her FN registration name of Colanda. Her sire Carlando I was German Showjumping champion under Karsten Huck in 1984, who later took part in international events with Edgar-Henri Cupper for many years, before returning to Holstein in 1990.
The grandam Fangelika is by Consul, the valuable son of the thoroughbred Cottage Son xx, who also appears as the dam-sire of the Cantus sire Caletto I. There is a threefold inbreeding effect in relation to the phenomenal thoroughbred sire Cottage Son xx, as Calando I also carries Cottage Son xx blood via his dam-sire Colombo.
Fangelika is also the foundation mare of the approved stallions Carthago and Lord Calando through her daughter Kerrin (by Mambo), and her granddaughter Perra (by Calando I). In a mating combination with Caletto I, Fangelika produced the approved stallion Celio, and together with Caletto II, she presented the internationally successful competition sports mare Ulika J.
The maternal strain 162 moreover produced the top competition horses Santiago 3 I/Helmut Rethemeier (world vice-champion eventer) and his full-brother Sando Khan 2/Harry Boldt (Grand Prix dressage horse), both by Skinflint xx, as well as the successful eventer, the Folly wise xx son Foliant 6/Dietmar Hogrefe and Madrigal (by Marlon xx), who won the individual bronze and team silver medals under Karl Schultz, at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
This line also produced the world famous approved showjumper stallion Lacros (by Landgraf I), ridden by Dirk Schroder, the Olympic horse Feinschnitt I (by Wendekreis), Feinschnitt II (USA) and Wendulan (by Wendkreis, Celle state stud).
Performance record: True to his origins, Cascavelle proved to be specialised in jumping, tallying scores of 9 and 10 in the showjumping index at his stallion performance test.
Breeding record: Cascavelle has presented a considerable number of Federal Championship contestants so far, including the finalist, Cascavelly 2002. He moreover presented the vice-champion mare at the Elmshorn Elite Mare Show, which is owned by the Tischer (Lauda) breeding association. In addition to this, Cascavelle presented vice-champions in the two-year old category in Heide and Elmshorn, who were also awarded the state premium. The champion foal of the district of Steinburg in 1997 was bred by A. Looft (Bekmiinde). A successful Federal Championship daughter was sold to the USA for DM. 500,000. Three Cascavelle sons have thus far been approved, namely C.I.A., Casco and Carillon. There were even three approved stallions at the 2001 Holsten approval that had a Cascavelle dam, including the winner, Lake Bid (knocking down price DM. 470,000).
